According to Kelly, 1899, ‘The D Co. of the 1st Volunteer Battalion Princess Charlotte of Wales’s (Royal Berkshire Regiment) have head quarters in Church lane.’

The Times, Wednesday, Dec 19, 1900: ‘The Mayor of Windsor has received from Sir Arthur Bigge, private secretary to the Queen, the following letter;- “I have submitted to the Queen the proposal you mentioned to me to erect a drill-hall in Windsor, and to name it after the late Prince Christian Victor. The site of the proposed drill-hall is on Crown land in the centre of the town, and is being sold to the corporation by the Commissioners of Woods and Forests at a nominal sum.”
