According to Kelly, 1914, 'The Territorial Drill Hall, in Main Street, was opened in [January] 1901, at a cost of £1000, and will seat around 900 persons; it is used for concerts, balls &c. and contains a reading room.' Originally built for I Company, 2nd Volunteer Battalion (Earl of Chester's), Cheshire Regiment.
