The Victoria County History of Shropshire tells us that a company of the Volunteer battalion, K.S.L.I. had an armoury in the assembly rooms in St. Luke's Road, purchased in 1906 and used until 1926. A drill hall had been constructed around 1900 in Waterloo Street, a building now demolished.
