Drill Hall, Park place

'C' Squadron Yorkshire Hussars
'G' 5 Prince of Wales Own Yorkshire
West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Own) 5th Battalion G Company

The West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Own) 5th Battalion G Company Drill Hall was at Park Place. (Kelly, 1912)

It has been suggested that this drill hall is extant as the Oddfellows Hall. We know that the Oddfellows Hall was built in 1871 for the local Lodge and for general purposes, and that it was available for rent. ('A Popular Illustrated Guide And Official Handbook To Knaresborough’, by A "Native", 1898) The local militia used the old workhouse from 1858 rather than a purpose-built drill hall. It seems likely that the subsequent Volunteer unit rented the Oddfellows Hall after it was built. This needs further investigation.
